ANAKYKLOS
Description ǀ Welcome to Anakyklos Perivallontiki. We are a non-for-profit environmental organization, set up in July 2010, aiming to actively contribute towards a clean, healthy and sustainable environment. The activities of Anakyklos in this field include the following:
– Informing and sensitizing the public, with special emphasis on school-students, on matters related to the environment, reuse of clothes and the reduction of waste.
– Creation of biological vegetable gardens in schools and other institutions.
– Operation of projects for the useful employment of unemployed young people, such as local authority run vegetable gardens, picking of fruit etc.
– Preservation and distribution to growers of local seeds and biodiversity.
The most important activity of Anakyklos is the Textile Collection and Recycling Project. By collecting and recycling used clothes, shoes, linen and other items, we contribute to the reduction of the volume of waste that ends up in landfill, we give access of those useful items to people, in Cyprus and abroad, who cannot afford to buy new clothes, and process textiles that cannot be reused so that they are turned into wiping cloths, fibres, insulation and other materials. With appropriate recycling, only a small proportion, around 2% will end up as garbage.
Everybody can contribute to this pioneering project.
• If you represent a non-governmental / charity organisation, you can communicate with us to find out how your organisation can become a partner with Anakyklos.
• If you can give us access to a suitable place (a supermarket, a central public space) where we can place one of our metal collection banks, please contact us.
• You are also more than welcome to join the volunteers who help Anakyklos to realise its aims and you are certainly welcome to offer your advice and suggestions on what we do.
Every citizen can help, since all of us, at some point or other, have clothes that we do not need any more. So, please do not throw away your clothes! Collect them in plastic bags and place them in one of the purple metal collection banks that you can find in your area, on the municipality premises, in supermarkets and in other public places.
Or, if you prefer, donate them to the charity or NGO of your choice that collects textiles, in collaboration with Anakyklos.
